Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Released Mac Pro? - 2006/08/13 17:25 What do you think about the new Mac Pro? Are you impressed? Disappointed? Do you plan to buy one? Why or why not?

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Released Mac Pro? - 2006/08/13 21:14 I think the Mac Pro looks great. They made it even easier to upgrade -- the hard drive bays are the easiest I've seen on any computer and not having a 'fat' graphics card block another PCI slot is great too. I even got my Firewire 800 port wish! - Mike

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Released Mac Pro? - 2006/08/14 01:04 Even the price is great compared to similar-speced Dulls. As always, if I were in the market (I'm perfectly happy with my dual 2 gig G5) I'd wait for rev 2.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Released Mac Pro? - 2006/08/14 08:54 I won't have the budget to upgrade to a Mac Pro any time soon but I think it is a nice system -- more of a refinement to the G5 tower than anything else, but easy to get inside and work on that is for sure. I was hoping that the Xeon would be so much faster than the G5 that it would run PPC programs in emulation faster than they run on the G5, but that isn't the case. So I think there is not a reason to upgrade if you are on a G5. If you are on a G4 tower though and have the money I bet it is tempting though!!

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Released Mac Pro? - 2006/08/14 14:21 The Mac Pro looks powerful but I cant imagine buying anything but a laptop in 2006.

I am thrilled to see three free HD bays and the spaced PCIe design is great too. But the Rosetta performance is weak and of course no classic. I wont be giving up my G5 anytime soon.
