Re:Use G4 350 MHz in a G3 AIO????? - 2006/08/05 14:55
The PC100 or PC133 RAM will work in your AIO but may not show the full amount of memory if it is not high density RAM. (RAM chips on both sides of the 256MB chips) Most 128MB and smaller will work fine. It will take up to 768MB of high density double sided PC100 RAM. (Three 256MB sticks)
You AIO specifies PC66 RAM but PC100 and 133 are backwards compatible and will function as PC66 RAM.
The CPU will not work. You need a ZIF CPU for the AIO G3. You can use a CPU from a beige G3, Blue & White G3 or Yikes G4 only. You can get a G3 400MHz CPU pretty cheap on eBay ($15.00 +/-) that is a B&W G3 pull and will work good.
You couls also overclock your 266MHz CPU to 300MHz without much effort and it will probably work fine. Check the XLR8yourmac.com site's G3Zone for more info on overclocking.
And Jaguar should run fine on the 266MHz chip with 256MB of RAM or more. It will be a little slow for several reasons including the CPU, bus speed, RAM speed, and hard drive speed. But it's still better than OS 9.
