Flash with CPU Upgrade? - 2009/10/31 12:41 Has anyone on this august forum updated a DA or similar G4 to a 1.6 GHz processor? How did it run flash? Were you able to look at Youtube or similar streaming video on the net? I'm thinking about upgrading, the machine is fine otherwise and is fairly well upgraded (max RAM, DVD, new video card, SATA card). I realize that an Intel mini will be even faster, but I like the expandability of this machine, and can't afford a Mac Pro at this juncture.

All opinions welcome, and thank you.

Re:Flash with CPU Upgrade? - 2009/11/01 14:05 As no one has responded Michael, can tell you I installed a 1.6GHz CPU upgrade from OWC in a Gigabit Ethernet, which had previously been a 500MHz DP. Performance was excellent, though I am not a Youtube viewer nor a heavy Flash user either.

Speed was first class, and I imagine with the 133MHZ system bus speed, would be slightly faster. Maxed out memory to 2GBm, though you can only go to 1.5GB, upgraded graphics card to an ATI Radeon 9600 256MB VRAM and the unit ran Leopard really well.

Mac Pro also the goal for me but quite content with a Dual Core G5 at the moment. Snow Leopard does not seem to be that much of an improvement other than for those Intel users who have to be right up there!

Re:Flash with CPU Upgrade? - 2009/11/02 11:08 No first hand experience on that upgrade but I would think it could handle YouTube flash videos just fine.
