powerbook g3 freeze - 2009/09/13 11:41 I have upgraded my wallstreet and lombard powerbooks to the max of ram 512 mb and 30gb hard driv bes and at certain times they freeze. I do not know if it is the harddrives or ram. The wallstreet was running mac os 10.3.9 and the lombard runs mac os 10.4.11. I am trying to increase each book to an 80 gb or larger harddrive up to 120gb. I read somewhere that it coud be someting magnetic on the hard drive. Thanks before hand.

Re:powerbook g3 freeze - 2009/09/13 19:41 I'd look at the memory first.
Remove one stick of Ram ( you should have 2 x 256mb sticks to get the total of 512mb in each ) then see if it still freezes.
If not , replace each Ram module with the other one you took out and run the Powerbooks again.
One of your memory modules may not be up to scratch.
For OS9 they might be fine but OSX is quite finicky when it comes to marginal Ram.
The other thing to do is to download and run " Memtest ".

Do you have any third party apps, utilities installed that may be causing these problems ?
Or do you have any flash drives or external hard drives or mice connected when this happens.
You could also run the hardware test from the OSX disc that you installed from.
