Network problems - 2009/08/27 19:53 I'm about to throw something at this point!

This afternoon, my cable modem stopped working. I called Comcast and the assistant told me to go exchange the old modem for a new one. So I did.

I brought the modem home and tried to set it up--that's when the troubles started.

I connected one of my computers to the modem directly and went through the wizard installation procedure. That installed a whole bunch of crap, which shows up in the Network pane. But I was at least connected to the web via ethernet. I then tried to connect the modem to my Airport, and the Comcast crap wouldn't see my Airport network at all. If I changed the Location in the Network pane I can see the Airport network--but it gives itself a self-assigned IP and will not connect to the web. I've removed the Comcast crap a couple of times and reinstalled. I thought that maybe I had to connect the modem to the Airport and then use one of the LAN ethernet ports to connect the computer to the Airport. But that did nothing at all. So I'm not connected via the ethernet port, and Airport is still giving itself a self-assigned IP address.

Has anyone gone through this stuff before? And what am I doing wrong? Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Re:Network problems - 2009/08/27 21:15 Never mind--I fixed it. I has to reset everything--the modem, the base station, the two expresses. And all of that really was so the stupid wizard routine could verify that I have a Comcast account. Surely there are easier ways!
