ibook g3/g4 internal cables - 2009/08/27 15:58 Okay, here's the thing, I know very little about macs 'under the hood', if you will.

I just bought an ibook g3 (dual usb, 500mhz) that is fully functional, except i understand the lcd backlight cable is bad. I have a thoroughly deceased ibook g4 which has a working backlight cable. Are they the same thing? Would I be able to transplant the cable from the g4 corpse into the now-blind g3?

If not, would i be able to come by a proper cord relatively easy? I'm pretty adept with taking laptops apart, even the ibooks. I just don't know if what i want to do has any chance of working, or would possibly make things explode.

Re:ibook g3/g4 internal cables - 2009/08/27 20:39 Ha, no it won't explode if you put in a cable from another laptop but I would suggest that to be sure of compatibility is to get one from the same model.
Even Apple was known to change components from different manufacturers halfway through a production cycle.
I know the iBook G3/500 after replacing a hard drive and Ram for a friend but not the G4.
If the cables are identical with the same connections both ends, I'd give it a try.
If it doesn't work then your best bet is to get one off either craigslist or ebay.
Just make sure from the seller exactly which model it is coming from.

Won't fit or work. You need one from the same model and usually the same exact model. Ebay is your best bet for the parts.
