Re:Booting from external eSATA drive - 2009/08/20 16:24The only bootable eSATA drives are those connected to a Dual Core late 2005 machines, and then they must be fitted with a SeriTek 2SE2 PCIE controller card. other G5's will boot IDE drives using Firewire only generally.
Have read this and other SeriTek model cards MAY boot other G5's but that is very debatable. The above article advises Mac Pro will not boot from the card.

Re:Booting from external eSATA drive - 2009/08/20 21:58Thanks, Harry. I was afraid that was the case. Firewire drives are getting scarcer and scarcer, alas.

Re:Booting from external eSATA drive - 2009/08/21 16:51You do not need a Firewire drive. Also use an IDE in an external case which simply connects by Firewire to the machine and away she boots. Know what? The Firewire backs up with SuperDuper the same speed as the eSATA drive connected to the SeriTek card.
