watch tv on g3 clamshell graphite ibook - 2009/07/26 02:10 hello.
is it possible to watch tv on my old g3 graphite clamshell - 466, 320ram, os 10.2, hd 10gb).

If so, what hardware/software would i need - i've looked at eyetv - but it wants more ram/higher os than i have.

is there any other option which might work - of is it just not going to be possible?

thanks for your time.

Re:watch tv on g3 clamshell graphite ibook - 2009/07/26 16:34 Used to watch via a TV Tuner Card on a 5500 Performa with 225MHz processor and 66MHz bus speed so a G3 should be no trouble with the correct card.

Maybe this will fill the bill and is cheap:-

Fair load for a laptop however I guess but that is the type of card you would need.

Re:watch tv on g3 clamshell graphite ibook - 2009/07/27 23:34 Something like these Miglia TVMicro and TVMax
http://www.pbcentral.com/columns/hildreth_moore/tv.shtml
would be possible on later Powerbooks but they require a G4 processor.
Or something like this

which may be bigger but is certainly a good unit.
I have one of these that I used to convert lots of VHS tapes to digital files.
It was plugged into a G4 tower though not a clamshell.

Re:watch tv on g3 clamshell graphite ibook - 2009/08/07 12:14 thanks very much for your responses.

i do now manage tv on my old ibook!! :)

i got an old eyetv usb box: http://www.drbottkg.com/prod/EyeTVUSB.html and downloaded some old software from the elgato site and it works!!!

not going to throw my tv out yet... it's not the best ever ... but am pleased i got it done, (for about £7 too - so can't be bad!!).. think i can record tv now as well if i want - though probably wouldn't get much more than a couple cartoons on my 10gb hard drive!!

thanks very much for taking the time to respond... it was good to know that i wasn't onto a complete no hoper... this is my first mac, (i've had pc's for years), and i enjoying it all very much
