malware at usedmac.com - 2009/08/03 01:55 i thought it was weird to get a google warning that www.usedmac.com could contain a virus...i know it's not a site sponsor but it looked like a good mac parts resource, does anyone know what's up with it? is it really down? and will this malware, if it exists, target os X?

Re:malware at usedmac.com - 2009/08/03 16:41 Works just fine and would take with a grain of salt.

I am sure if a virus for OS X was out there every PC seller and forum would be screaming it. Send a copy of the alert to usedmac.

Re:malware at usedmac.com - 2009/08/03 18:02 I just went to the site and didn't get any warning from Firefox. You mentioned a "google warning" Are you using Chrome ? How do you get a warning from Google ?

We do have to be somewhat aware of malware possibilities on the Mac Harry. There are trojans for Macs but it has to be installed by the user so as long as you don't click ok to install something it's pretty safe. I agree that this case is probably nothing though.

I have seen where sites that sell advertising space can contain malicious code in the site ads. So even sites you trust may be spreading malware unknowingly so it's always a good idea to drop the site an email.

As long as you are using a Mac and don't install anything you are not sure of you are safe. Some P2P downloads of the Mac versions of MS Office and some Adobe apps have been found to contain malware so avoid pirated software for this and the obvious reasons.

Re:malware at usedmac.com - 2009/08/05 00:20 I don't know whether this is any help but I'm finding with Safari 4.0.2 that accessing sites either not previously accessed or rarely accessed a message appears about the site not being secure. So far there has been no problems with such sites.

Re:malware at usedmac.com - 2009/08/05 16:20 Have you tried ticking 'Block Pop Up Windows' under the Safari title in the menu bar?
