Isolating video failure on 933 QS - 2009/07/28 21:28 Video works sporadically during power-on cycle. About once every ten restarts I will get video, the other nine times no video at all.

I have tried two different AGP cards with same results - cards work in my other G4. I tried a different monitor as well - same result.

I suspect the AGP slot itself, but it is only a supposition and know of no way to validate that suspicion. Any thoughts/ideas?

The symptoms manifest themselves no matter if the machine is "cold", or has been running for some time.

I cannot run this system headless, so I somehow need to resolve this problem.

Thanks for your help.

Re:Isolating video failure on 933 QS - 2009/07/28 22:35 Pop in your install DVD, reboot in target disk mode and run Apple Hardware Test from there. AHT does a check of the graphics.

Re:Isolating video failure on 933 QS - 2009/07/29 14:54 Try resetting NVRAM in open firmware:

Boot holding command/option/O/F keys until you get the prompt.

If you get an image type:

reset-nvram
Press Return

reset-all
Press Return

This will reset all of the PRAM and NVRAM settings to default.

Re:Isolating video failure on 933 QS - 2009/07/30 23:22 Try the other suggestions first and if that doesn't work maybe look at borrowing or buying a PCI card and connecting the monitor to that.
The AGP slot as you hint at may be toast.
A 16mb PCI card would probably only cost $10.
Just make sure to get a Mac compatible one like this.
