tiger Install Trouble - 2009/07/20 13:07 I have a 400 MHz DV iMac. 384 MB RAM. Currently running 10.3. I want to go to 10.4 for the extra goodies, but am reluctant to go to 10.5 with the slower processor and slim RAM.

I lost my 10.4 disc, so I downloaded a RIP off Pirates Bay. Got a ZIP file with 4 .dmg files. It is supposed to be the CD version, and reported to work.

I burned disc 1 with the same name as the dmg file. Mac Extended format. All files seem fine. When the Mac tries to boot off the disc, it cannot find the system folder, and spits out the disc. There is a system folder on the disc, but it is not blessed. I tried the regular boot from opening the disc on the desktop, and force booting with the C key. Same result. Where do I go from here?

I have a few other machines to work with. Do I need to manipulate the disc contents to do a straight up install? better to run it off the dmg files on my tower with a firewire cable to the iMac? Can I cable the iMac to one of my other 10.4 machines and just transfer the system file?

suggestions?

Re:tiger Install Trouble - 2009/07/20 14:05 So I dragged the blessed folder from my tower (10.4.11) to the Install disc. Deleted the non blessed sys folder. Burned that mess to a DVD.

I'll see if that works.

Re:tiger Install Trouble - 2009/07/20 14:32 Burned a coaster.

Got a file error during the burn. I think it was a sub file in the Sys folder.

Re:tiger Install Trouble - 2009/07/20 16:22 Give the pirated stuff away and purchase a full install DVD version of Tiger and update after install is the only, honest and decent, way to go.
