Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/05/26 05:59I bought a turntable to play vinyl records some six weeks ago. Audacity apparently is the software that will enable the music to be played through a computer. However, I'm stumped. I can't get it to work. Anybody with experience of Audacity?

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/05/26 09:49I gave up on Audacity a long time ago. Instead, I use Wiretap Studio, which at 69 bucks is pretty expensive. Audio Hijack is 30 or so bucks and I've heard good things about it. IMHO Apple should have recording ability at the OS level.

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/05/31 09:42i've been an audacity user for years but i am not sure what you mean on "can't get it to work"....does your mac recognize your usb turntable? (it should just about everything is plug & play-you could have a bad usb port)
in audacity system preferences, just select the usb turntable as your audio input...you can then play your record and the audio wave forms should appear in audacity, at which point you just need to hit the red "record" button in audacity...

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/05/31 22:34Thanks Eternalvibe at least the Audacity panel came alive but no sound and no audio wave forms. Just a 'gauge' line running across the Audacity screen. Re the G4 recognising the USB turntable, well no icon comes up on the screen. The USB port should be OK as the usbturntable replaces a printer. Have also tried the printer's usb cable.
A thought both turntable and printer cables are Firewire.
Thanks again

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/07 00:49Re the use of Audacity with an USB Turntable. Thanks to Eternalvibe there is some action in the Audacity Panel but there's no sound. The turntable does emit a weak sound while arm/needle on a record. But cannot get Audacity to 'play' the music. Is it necessary to cut a CD?

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/07 14:57Do you see the turntable in the system profiler? You may need to have it turned on when starting the profiling! I personally use Sound Studio!
