Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/13 02:34 Thanks
I run OSx.4.11. The machine came with a disk but it was Window compatible. For a Mac Audacity was recommended. The version downloaded could be an updated version. Beyond me. I don't quite follow Davidreid solution. Is it that there's equipment on the market that can be connected to the USB turntable and then connect to the computer. I've a cupboard full of vynals.

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/13 08:54 You must understand I have a complete recording studio. My mixer is connected to my Mac via a PCI audio board, not the audio input that is stock with Macs.

Now as far as turntables, back in the old days ALL turntables required a pre-amp, then into the stereo system or you had to use the phono RCA jacks on the stereo, turntables have a pre-amp because they have a very low peak to peak voltage output and in order to hear what is being played on the turntable it had to be amplified, I'm sure they still sale these things!

Here is one on eBay.

This one has the pre-amp built in already, I know it is $50+, but what did you pay for the USB version, and can you return it?

The main thing you must remember, turntables need to have a ground wire going from the turntable to the stereo or in yours and my case, your Mac!
The application you want to use should allow you to record right into your audio input to your Mac, I ran it like that for years, that is until the MIDI bug hit me, so I purchased this: M Audio Audiophile 2496 Analog/Digital/MIDI Card+, a great little card and it comes with the breakout cable!

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/13 20:09 Thanks David. Have just discovered that in Preferences there is an icon for the USB turntable. The turntable is recognised by the Mac. However, click on the icon doesn't exactly help. Why a manual wasn't supplied is beyond me. I'll try a Google search.

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/14 10:41 so the input preferences in audacity found the usb turntable? have you played it to see if audio wavelengths are now showing? i think you should be set..

davidreid, i'm pretty sure the usb turntables have their own internal pre-amp they might be usb powered as a matter of fact...

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/14 16:17 Yes, the USB turntables come with a built-in amp and converter!

Re:Using Audacity Software/Records - 2009/06/14 21:12 Thanks Eternalvibe/Davidreid. Preferences are the Apple System Preferences. What's there is at the bottom
Other an icon then USB Overdrive. Click on the icon and a panel comes up that I can't make sense of, beyond clicking the mouse would be used.
If Audacity is then loaded nothing is changed.
Utterly beyond me. Did a Google search and couldn't find anything for Fission USB Turntables
