speed comparison PPC/Intel Mac mini - 2009/05/18 17:51 I have a PPC-based Mac mini, 1GB RAM running at 1.42GHz. I'm looking at getting an Intel-based Mac mini, fully loaded with memory at 4GB. I expect I'll get at least a 3x speed improvement. Are there any benchmarks out there that can help me better understand what my speed improvement will really be? Perhaps there are some standardized benchmark results for the various Mac models on this site and I've not found them.

I don't think you are going to see a 3x speed boost. Some things will be much faster but some will only be slightly faster and most in between. A lot of factors are involved like if you are using intel coded software or universal binary software for Intel/PPC.

The 4GB of RAM will make a lot of difference and the Intel chip, depending on which one will also make a lot of difference. But you may be expecting too much at 3x.
