Or maybe a install disk from a different machine which might be specific to that machine. Even if it has OS9 on it you should be able to drag it from the CD to your hard drive, if you have had OSX on that machine it my need the OS9 drivers from the OSX disk, this is at the beginning of the installing of OSX. If you have erased and reformatted the hard disk it should not cause a problem, It is a G3 so it should run OS9! Good luck!!!

Click here to see the profile of this user 		Re:iMac G3 600 mhz - 2009/04/22 15:56 Sounds like you have got hold of the silver grey system restore discs which will install only with the model they came with, usually, as they have blockers built into them.

Some one at the MUG may have a black coloured OS 9.2.2 full install disc so pop that in, reboot and hold down 'C' which should start from the disc, verify the hard drive, repair if necessary, zero and reformat the drive and proceed with a clean install.

To install OS X you do need to ensure the firmware is up to date. If the machine has been running OS X in any format it will be okay as the firmware is written on the logic chip and reformatting does not erase that.
