Newbie Needs Help - 2009/03/19 21:14 Long time love of macs - made the jump to collector.

I am having a variety of issues from the few 68k Macs I have acquired. My goal is to get them to a working state.

First, a performa 200 (classic II I think) gives me the blinking question mark. I've used two different disks in an attempt to start it up; a copied sys. 7 disk utility disk and a very old system tools disk maybe sys 4(?) while holding 'c'. Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new, so I don't really know what I don't know.

Also where is a good place to get memory for these old 68ks?

Re:Newbie Needs Help - 2009/03/23 16:06 From memory, which is getting frail like the rest of me, you need OS 7.0 and maybe the highest update it will take is 7.0.1. OS 7.0 came on five floppies, and the update on about nine floppies.

Best of luck. Have a look throuhg this link:-

Re:Newbie Needs Help - 2009/03/23 19:15 The Performa 200 will run on System 7.0.1-7.5.1,7.5.3-7.6.1 only.

Are you sure you copied the System 7 disk image correctly ? Did you use Apple's Disk Copy application to make the disk from an image file ? Have you tried the disk on another Mac ?

The System 4 disk will not boot the Mac, you specifically need System 7.

You can install the drive into a working Mac that will run System 7 for the install or copy it from another installed OS via an external SCSI case. (put the P200 drive in an ext. SCSI case and copy the OS from another Mac)
