Monitor lines - 2008/11/25 19:58A few weeks ago my Intel IMac developed a thin, green line down the screen. Today, there are five thin lines from top to bottom. Any thoughts on the problem and the cure? Thanks

There are a lot of reported issues with the LCD or the video cable on that model creating the green lines.
The only advice I can give it take it to the Apple dealer for diagnosis.

Re:Monitor lines - 2008/11/26 12:29Do you have a hardware test disk that came with your iMac ? If so boot from the test disk and run the tests. Maybe the problem will be detected by the video tests.
Also if you attach an external monitor to the iMac and it works ok your video chipset should be ok.
I think it's the LCD or the video cable causing the problem. Either can be replaced but will be somewhat expensive. The repairs can be done with the help of on-line take apart guides. Determine exactly which 17" iMac you have and google for a guide. You should be able to find one for about any Intel Mac.
The video "card" on your iMac is soldered to the motherboard so it cannot be replaced even if it was the problem. The entire motherboard would have to be replaced if the video card/chipset is bad and that is expensive.
