help! iPod doesn't realize it has songs on it - 2008/11/21 01:41
I have an 80GB iPod classic named JIVE MODULE and I use two computers to manage files on it--a MacBook running OSX and a PC running Windows XP. My iPod was not synced to any computer--it was my master cache of music and files.
Tonight I was using OpenOffice's word processor on my Mac to edit a document that was stored on my iPod. I saved the document, closed OpenOffice, and ejected the iPod from the Finder (or Desktop, I'm not sure what to call it). A dialogue box popped up that said something along the lines of "Your device was improperly ejected. Data may have been lost."
I looked at my iPod and it said there was no music on it! Also no videos, no photos--nothing.
I plugged it back in. iTunes said that it couldn't read the information on the iPod and that I should restore it. All that showed up in the iTunes side-panel was an icon that said 'iPod'. But JIVE MODULE showed up correctly labeled on the desktop/finder, and all my files and information (39 GB) is still inside it.
I tried plugging it in to my PC and the exact same thing happened: iTunes couldn't access any of the iPod's information and told me to restore, but JIVE MODULE showed up in 'My Computer' and all the 39 GB of files were still there.
I also tried to run MusicRescue, but the program said it couldn't detect any iPod.
I went into 'iPod_Control' and I tried playing some of the mp3/mp4 files. As soon as I double-clicked a file, it popped up in iTunes, and the song's title/album/artist/genre were correctly labeled and the song played perfectly.
What happened? How can I fix this?
Also, is there any way I can save all my playlists? I know it's silly, but I had about 30 and they were all long and beautifully designed.
Thank you for any help! I don't think I can live without my music!
