Re:Leopard on G4 Quicksilver? - 2008/11/14 14:35There are ways to install Leopard, so just do a google and you will find many suggestions. How well it will run is open to debate however suggest at least the memory of your machine be maxed out to the 1.5GB.
Also Tiger and Leopard, to be viewed to the best effect, require a Quartz and core image capable graphics card, and the standard for Quicksilver machines was usually a nVidia 4MX 64MB.

Re:Leopard on G4 Quicksilver? - 2008/11/14 14:49Officially Leopard is not supported on anything less than an 867MHz G4 but it will run on older G4's.
There are several methods you can use to install 10.5 on a pre-867MHz G4. The two best options are:
You can download and use Leopard Assist to install OS 10.5 on unsupported G4's.
You can use Firewire Target Disk Mode using a supported G4 or G5 to install OS 10.5 on your G4. You can also use an Intel Mac but I don't know if it would cause problems or not due to the Intel CPU code it would install on a PPC Mac. To avoid problems I would not use an Intel Mac for this.
Using your G4 in TDM mode attached to a supported Mac would be the same as installing OS 10.5 on an external hard drive, but your G4 would be the external hard drive. I used this method to install OS 10.5 on a Dual CPU 500MHz G4 and it ran fine, just a little slow. Your 733 will run about the same.
You should have as much RAM as possible. 1GB or more is best for OS 10.5.
You can easily upgrade the processor on G4's. (about 5 minutes) Overclocking is another option but I doubt you could get 867MHz to run stable on a 733Mhz G4.
I overclocked my 800MHz Quicksilver to 867MHz to install OS 10.5 on a 2nd drive, but honestly it runs Tiger better and I rarely boot into Leopard anymore. There is not that much difference in speed between the 2 OS's but enough to keep me using Tiger instead of Leopard. Your 733MHz G4 suffers from the same small L2 cache & no L3 cache as the 800MHz QS so you should expect a performance hit with Leopard.
You can easily swap your 733MHz G4 with any other Quicksilver CPU to get a speed boost, or use an aftermarket G4 upgrade but the new upgrade CPU's are expensive. See OWC ad on this page for upgrade CPU's.
LowEndMac's google group LEMSwap or eBay would be the best places to find later (faster) G4 CPU's.
What I would do is try to find an 867MHz or 933MHz G4 CPu to replace your 733. It won't cost more than the G4 is worth and will help quite a bit.
There are lots of on line guides for the things i mentioned so whatever you decide to do let us know and we can help find the info you need to make it easy.
