iMac G3 600 boot up thru firewire port? - 2008/11/11 22:37Can a iMac G3 600 be booted up thru the firewire port with an external hd with 10.4 already installed? I can't get this unit to start up with the original cd's (keeps spitting them back out) and I need to install the os on the new internal hd. Thanks!

Re:iMac G3 600 boot up thru firewire port? - 2008/11/12 07:15Yes, your iMac 600MHz G3 can boot from a FW disk. Just attach the drive and press/hold the option key on boot up to select the FW drive to boot from.
It may boot from USB also if you have a USB optical drive or can borrow one. I have used USB external drives on 400MHz G3 iMacs and it is bootable but Apple may have dropped USB booting by the time they built your iMac.
