Newton + Powerbook 520 + Macbook = How? - 2008/10/26 15:47 Hey Everyone
Totally new here, but have been using Macs for my whole life. Recently started a legacy collection to which my parents added a Newton H1000 for my birthday.
I've quickly realized that the most practical use for the Newton is an ebook reader and quick notes. I'll be plenty satisfied with that.
So my process so far has been to attempt connecting my Newton to a Powerbook 520 running system 7 through the 8 pin serial adapter found on both. The Newton recognizes the connection and prompts that the computer doesn't have the Newton software on it.
So, my next step becomes getting files and software from the internet to the Powerbook. I have an Apple branded and an Asante AAUI to RJ 45 adapter. I hooked that to the powerbook and then that to my Macbook running 10.5.5. The Macbook recognizes there is a connection and assigns an IP address but doesn't go any further than that. The powerbook doesn't react at all.
What next? My resources are 1 big box of various cables, a Mac classic, 2 Mac SE's, One powerbook 520, One Mac g4 running 10.4.11, a macbook and a newton.
Any help would be appreciated. And if any of you are in the Ottawa area it'd be great to sit down and geek it out a bit someday.

edit - Just realized another option, is it possible to get a usb card reader for the newton flash card? and do transfers straight over?
Also, I hope this is the right section, I now realize it's more about the newton.
