Streaming Video on G4 800mhz Digital Audio - 2008/10/21 15:54 My G4 does not see video. I'm running OS 9.2.2. Is there something missing that I need to acquire.

Thanks

Re:Streaming Video on G4 800mhz Digital Audio - 2008/10/21 19:10 Do you have the usual apps installed? QuickTime, RealPlayer, whatever was the last version of Windows Media Player that worked with OS 9?

Re:Streaming Video on G4 800mhz Digital Audio - 2008/10/22 00:56 Cacicedo, Thanks for the prompt response. I have windows Media Player 7 and Internet Explorer 5.1 and Quick Time 6. When I type Youtube.com into the Quicktime window the message reads "software component needed by the movie could not be found."

WHen I open NY Times, the video frames remain blank.

I take it from your response that my G4 should be able to do streaming video, correct? By the way, I have had this G4 for years and never used it - so nothing is corrupted that I know of.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Re:Streaming Video on G4 800mhz Digital Audio - 2008/10/22 01:44 Well the latest version of Quicktime is 7.5.5 and presumably Youtube needs a later version of Quicktime. You could use Explorer to Download Youtube but it's slow. You could try upgrading the OS to OS 10.

I've gotten mixed info as to wether G4 with only 1.25 gigs will accept OS 10. Do you know if bigger gig is needed for 10.

Re:Streaming Video on G4 800mhz Digital Audio - 2008/10/22 16:08 All G4's will run up to OS X.4.10 but make sure you update the firmware if needed from the Apple web site prior to leaving OS 9.2.

If you mean you have a 1.25GHz MDD G4 then you can run up to Leopard OS X.5.5. For both Tiger X.4 and Leopard X.5 try and have at least 1GB memory installed. If it is the 800MHz Quicksilver with 1.25GB memory, Tiger is as high as you can go with a standard install and it will run very nicely.

Either operating system will update Quicktime etc
