I hope the G5 is far from obsolete. My G4 is 7 or 8 years old and still chugging along quite well. Not sure how old it really is because it's built with a DA G4 mobo and a QS 800 (OC'd to 867MHz) CPU in a QS case. So the board could be pushing 8 years old.

BTW: I just timed my G4 and it boots OS 10.4.11 in about 60 seconds, but if I boot into OS 10.5.4 it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds.

Not bad for something beyond obsolete !


Thank you :-) I've been getting a lot of interest in this topic in some other forums. A lot of them were using the ability to play HD content (specifically 1080p) to justify calling it obsolete. I decided to make a video of my computer playing two 1080p movies:
