Mac Upgrades, "Obsolete" G5's, & rea - 2008/10/02 19:57I decided to write about my "slow" G5. I just found it frustrating that people are quick to point out G5's (and other Power Macs for that matter) are obsolete. Here is the link to my blog:
I have some info about upgrading and three videos (My machine booting, using cover flow, and a stress test). I think the stress test is kinda cool.. let me know what you think

Re:Mac Upgrades, "Obsolete" G5's, & real world speed - 2008/10/03 16:43First off think you need to change your blog .. message 404 not found!.
Who says G5's are slow? Personally use a G4 FW800 with maxed out RAM and 1500MB DSL it really flies. Do you do any of the maintenance scripts on the G5? What maintenance utilities are you using?

Re:Mac Upgrades, "Obsolete" G5's, & real world spe - 2008/10/03 19:00the only maintenance software I use is iDefrag, with its performance options enabled. I really think the software is worth the money.

Re:Mac Upgrades, "Obsolete" G5's, & real world spe - 2008/10/04 00:18It really amazes me that a lot of people think buying a new Intel Mac is the answer to everything.
I hope the G5 is far from obsolete. My G4 is 7 or 8 years old and still chugging along quite well. Not sure how old it really is because it's built with a DA G4 mobo and a QS 800 (OC'd to 867MHz) CPU in a QS case. So the board could be pushing 8 years old.
BTW: I just timed my G4 and it boots OS 10.4.11 in about 60 seconds, but if I boot into OS 10.5.4 it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds.
Not bad for something beyond obsolete !
