Re:Can not install OS 9.2.2 on my machine running - 2008/09/28 21:14OS9 is installed on the internal drive thus in System Preferences it can be selected for Startup or it can be accessed as Classic when running OSX on the internal. OS9 can be also selected as Classic when using the External, but it causes problems.

Re:Can not install OS 9.2.2 on my machine running - 2008/09/28 22:01Krow, thanks, you've made me think about the problem of installing OS9 on the External HD. The problem would appear to be Classic. There are Classic folders etc on the Internal HD and none on the External. This is the reason that when clicking on the Classic icon when using the External it uses the Internal HD for access and in the process stuffs up the system.
A clean install of OS10.4.6 was made on the Ex HD and updates downloaded. The clean install was made because the Internal HD was playing up.
My OS9.2.1 CD is ancient. It was bought when I got the 8600. Checked the Apple site and a Classic Download doesn't appear to be available. The G4 came with OS10.2.0 and OS9.2.2 installed.
So it's a case of 'Now what!'

Re:Can not install OS 9.2.2 on my machine running - 2008/09/29 02:30First thing I would do is check your internal drive with Disk Utility and/or DiskWarrior to see if any errors show up. Just boot from a OS X install disk and verify/repair both drives and check/repair permissions too. Running DiskWarrior on both drives wouldn't hurt either.
Then do a clean install of OS 9 on the internal (replacing the OS 9 System folder with a new one) and hopefully you don't have many extensions to copy to the new system folder. (If you want or have to keep OS 9 on the internal)
But I would try installing OS 9.2.1 again on the external drive and update it to 9.2.2. Then trash the OS 9 folder on the internal drive or just select the external OS 9 system for classic.
If the OS 9 installer tells you that you cannot install OS 9 on this drive because it already has a system folder just click the options button and select Clean Install. That should work, and would put OS 9 on the same partition as OS X on your external.
