MDD G4 Power Light/Enable USB? - 2008/09/08 16:35 Hello. I have a MDD G4 1.25 Single. Every now and then the mouse freezes and the power light goes out. I keep restarting and eventually it runs for a few months and happens again. It can also sometimes be brought on by plugging in a usb printer to my keyboard. I've also tried just connecting keyboard to computer without usb extender I normally use. Also switched keyboards and the problem remains.

When this is happening I run Applejack and sometimes it says USB not enabled. Other times it reports nothing. It seems that the USB is somehow connected to this intermittent problem. Also, when we have a storm and the power goes out it brings this problem on. So I don't know if its a power supply problem or a usb port problem or a board problem.

Would love some suggestions. Resetting PMU seems to help but not always. Also, have some G3's laying around, can I use power supply from those? Not sure on that and can't find an answer to it.

Re:MDD G4 Power Light/Enable USB? - 2008/09/08 16:39 If you are using a USB port, is it a powered port which is essential to get quality connections?

Re:MDD G4 Power Light/Enable USB? - 2008/09/08 17:01 No, not powered. I use an Iogear usb port to plug in my printer and scanner. But, I've had the same problem when plugged directly into the 2 usb ports in the back of the computer.
Thanks.
