Re:processor - 2008/08/29 09:21
booted fine, so we took the processor out of the computer and it is sitting in an anti-static bag till we know it will work in the existing G4 We think the problem with the G4 DP 800 is processor related, but that is a guess, because, none of my techs are familiar with Macs. When we shut the system down for the evening it is difficult to start the next day. Sometimes it freezes with grey screen and no cursor, if we re-start it may freeze on the "happy" face, or the os9.2 screen. sometimes it starts and we have no mouse or keyboard control. And sometimes when it starts loading, I get an error message concerning internal cache memory, call a technician. When I click ok, the computer loads and runs fine. I use a USB hub from the computer to the keyboard since the cpu is mounted in a rack, and sometimes, for lack of a better term, the green connection light on the usb is not on. We power down completely, have even hooked the G5's keyboard and mouse up to it to see if it is a problem. But you think the processors should just switch out? It's part of an editing system, and has boards in some of the slots, scsi's for external drives, etc. so we figured it would be easier just to switch the processors and not everything else.
thanks Pat
