Trouble using flash drive with Ibook - 2008/08/25 17:03 I'm trying to copy my Itunes library to my new laptop. I was going to use a 8GB flash drive to make the transfer. Yet, when I plug in the flash drive, it lights up, but when I try to export the library, the save button will not be highlighted, like it is if I want to transfer to other places. The flash I'm using says it works on PC's and Macs, and it says it should function without having to install anything onto the Mac. Any ideas on what to do to get this thing to work? (It's a Ibook 12" with the 1.2 Ghz processor, 256MB memory and OS X 10.3.9)

Re:Trouble using flash drive with Ibook - 2008/08/25 19:00 Why not just move the folder directly? It's at ~/Music. Once you have the folder on the new computer, just import it into iTunes--or, having quit iTunes, just replace the iTunes folder on the new laptop with the one you brought over from the desktop. When you start up iTunes, you should have everything in place.

Re:Trouble using flash drive with Ibook - 2008/08/25 20:53 When you say to move it directly, how would you connect the two computers, with a USB cable?

Re:Trouble using flash drive with Ibook - 2008/08/26 16:08 You can connect two recent Macs with a Firewire cable using Target Disk Mode:

The Flash drive probably needs to be erased/formatted before your Mac can recognize it (wrong format). Plug it in and open Disk Utility. Select the drive and erase it. It should then show up on the desktop and in dialog boxes ok.

Re:Trouble using flash drive with Ibook - 2008/09/24 00:06 I have found that ALL flash drives are formatted for MS DOS/Windoze. Whenever you get a new flash drive, use the disk utility (In Applications/Utilities) to format the drive, then it works better. Even though OSX recognizes MS DOS disks, there are some problems with them when they are moved from one computer to another.
