Powermac Dual 2.0 - 2008/08/02 21:13Hello, firstly this is an excellent site. I just found it because I needed some info on a eBay purchase.
I just bought a Powermac G5 Dual 2.0, I thought it was the newer one but it has PC3200 ram so obviously not as new as originally thought. The seller did say it has 2 processors and I'm wondering what type of performance gain I will see as this is a replacement for my trusty G4 733, which will now server as my web server.
I want to get a few upgrades like video and assume it will be a AGP card so looking at the ATI X800 and ordered 2 500GB SATA drives and 4GB RAM. I'm wanting to use it as my training machine to get my Leopard Server certs.
So are they good reliable machines like my G4 has been for the past 8 years.
Thanks

Re:Powermac Dual 2.0 - 2008/08/03 02:06Suggest you click on Apple at the top of the page and that'll get you into Mac PS G5. Then you can find details of year etc. PC3200 doesn't give a great deal of information

it does have AGP but it also has PCI-X slots, so do you have the option of both?

Re:Powermac Dual 2.0 - 2008/08/03 14:40Thanks, yeah I have asked the seller some additional questions but at first when it was listed as dual core I thought it was the latest one with the PC2-4200 ram but he confirmed it wasn't. He also included a 20" Apple Cinema, so I don't have too much info on it. I didn't realize there were so many 2.0 models. The information here is unreal.

Re:Powermac Dual 2.0 - 2008/08/11 20:19Well it finally arrived and thanks to UPS they dropped the G5 damn hard so I have to go in tomorrow and make a claim. I wanted to fire it up see if the damage was internal as well and was wondering do the rear exhaust fans not run until required??? Because they are not moving and putting my hand over the top fan its quite warm but the bottom one cool. Still trying to figure out model this is exaclty. On the bottom it says A1047 and the specs were 2GHz DP - PCI-X ~ 512MB ~ 160GB ~ HD/DVD ~ R9600 Pro
Heres a pic of the damage.
