need help changing a forgotten password - 2008/05/31 21:55 I recently sold an iBook G3 300 MHz running Mac OS X 10.2. I was given a CD copy of OS X and one for Microsoft Office which I never did anything with. It is a tangerine laptop computer I purchased second hand myself and rarely using it beyond loading some software on it and playing audio CD's. Anyway, the new owner is trying to install programs that he transferred with his flash drive and software CDs and it is asking for a password. I never received one when I purchased it (didn't know I needed one and never used the laptop enough to know I needed one). Without the password, he cannot change the password. Without a password, this machine is useless to him (and being a non-techy myself, to me as well).

Also, this machine cannot seem to find the server on any of his browsers that he transferred over with his flash drive.

I would appreciate any information anyone can provide me with :) Thanks in advance....

Re:need help changing a forgotten password - 2008/06/01 19:15 The easiest way to fix the password issue is to boot from the OS X install CD by holding the "C" key down when booting with the disk in the drive.

There is an option on the top menu bar to reset password.

The connecting issue could be any number of things but more info is needed.

What connection ? Wifi . ethernet or dial-up ?

What hardware is the new owner trying to connect with ?

Modem, router etc....

Re:need help changing a forgotten password - 2008/06/02 01:11 I've found that when my browser can't find anything it's usually the modem. Resetting the modem is done by shutting down for a few minutes and starting up again. If this doesn't clear things up, there may be a problem with the modem.
Other than that, check the profile under Network Preferences. The Mac might be trying to connect in some manner which is not available to it. Select Automatic for location and try again.
