graphics for mdd - 2008/05/08 18:11 so i have my eyes set on an nvidia graphics card for my mdd but system profiler tells me that the 64mb card currently in it is an ati radeon 9000 pro, does this mean that my mdd doesn't have drivers for nvidia on it? it's advertised as 'uses your existing nvidia drivers!' i'm like...um....

Re:graphics for mdd - 2008/05/09 17:04 Your operating system has nVidia drivers. The ATI Radeon 9000 was the standard card used in MDD but, whilst it will work fine, is not Core Image compatible for use with Tiger and Leopard.

Avoid the nVidia GeForce 6200 card as it is reported these do not workm with MDD models. Best card allegedly for our machines is the ATI Radeon 9800 MAC PRO.

Re:graphics for mdd - 2008/05/13 10:14 Thanks, I'll research it on my own, but maybe you will get to this before me, what connections does the ATI Radeon 9800 MAC PRO have? DVI, ADC, VGA, etc...

Re:graphics for mdd - 2008/05/13 16:58 ADC is dead and buried for G4's so we will not see any cards beyond say the 9000 or maybe 9200 with ADC. Using an ATI Radeon 9600 in my MDD FW800 which ironically does come with ADC fitting for a G5 lol!.

The little connector is at the very front of the card whereas G4's have the connector for ADC at the rear. It is reported as unpowered ADC for G4's. On a G5 the ADC will run the 30" LCD display.

So yes DVI and VGA are the go now. To use my Apple LCD have had to purchase the ADC-DVI connector which does work great, if it does need mains power and USB cables to power ports on the display, and of course the DVI connection.

Re:graphics for mdd - 2008/05/15 10:53 no worries i know the Nvidia advertised works with MDDs, and has VGA ports only, also stating it does not support ADC; i'm assuming VGA-ADC will work i don't know. anyway, i'm looking forward to dual monitor, 19incn & 23inch. this will be my new home entertainment center & FCP machine
