I upgraded to 10.4, and will likely go to 10.5
Reading has been no problem. I have not had occasion to burn with it, but all seems fine, and I expect no problems. I ran patchburn just in case.
I'm having issues with RAM. I have over a Gig that I removed from G3 owers, but the G4 will not recognize it. It is PC 133, but I'm not sure of the speed. I know some is 100, but I thought some was 133. It's not well marked. I'd like to fill the last slot.
Which G4 do you have ?
PC100 & PC133 will work in G4's up to the Gigabit Ethernet model. Only PC133 will work in Digital Audio through the first MDD G4.
If you have RAM lying around just try it, if it works great, but some will not. Mac RAM specs are much tighter than PC's and a general rule of thumb is to look for Non-ECC double sided Low Density RAM. I'm not sure if Parity or Non-Parity RAM is a problem or not. I've always bought RAM from a Mac supplier or used whatever works from dead PC's. In my experience there is about a 25% chance it will work in a Mac.
Harry is right on the OS X requirements. A lot of RAM that worked fine in OS 9 would cause Kernel Panics when installing OS X or sometimes even after the OS was installed and running.
