Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/07/30 17:03No it is quite a simple job. Remove faceplate, undo two screws and slide old burner out and disconnect power and IDE cables. Struth you will find those power connections tight.
The burner will be recognised as native no problem, XLR8yourmac.com has how to's complete with pictures.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/08/03 01:22i just got one of those not too long ago, toast tends to burn mine safely at around 12x speed. the only thing i noticed different in price is lightscribe.
ps: if your dvd drive isn't opening take it out, remove the front of the tray, and put it back in, i spent 20 minutes cussing before i realized that.
pss: has anyone tried one of those B-DVD burners/players? they bundle as dual layer dvd burners (not blue ray burner, just player) it's very tempting to get a blue ray player via optical drive as they are like 200-300 cheaper than stand alones...i just wanna know if they work well

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/08/03 16:38As you found out eternalvibe the Pioneer, do not know about other brands, has a little clip on plastic lip on the front of the tray which just prevents the tray slipping all the way back into the housing.
Sorry should have mentioned it as have installed about half a dozen Pioneer and had to do this each time with a tower.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/08/12 21:25Install was a snap.
I upgraded to 10.4, and will likely go to 10.5
Reading has been no problem. I have not had occasion to burn with it, but all seems fine, and I expect no problems. I ran patchburn just in case.
I'm having issues with RAM. I have over a Gig that I removed from G3 owers, but the G4 will not recognize it. It is PC 133, but I'm not sure of the speed. I know some is 100, but I thought some was 133. It's not well marked. I'd like to fill the last slot.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/08/13 16:53The PC100 will slow down your G4 tower and make the 133 modules run at the much slower speeds, if indeed the PC100 will run at all as it may not be recognised. Memory does detoriate with age so perhaps some new memory from OWC would be the shot.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/08/18 09:48Is RAM parity an issue with these machines?
