Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/04/29 16:38 Strongly recommend Pioneer DVR-115D which is Dual Layer, 20X and got one for $30 here in Australia. Pioneer are simply plug and play and reconised as native.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/04/29 16:48 Do they come with burner software? Or do you suggest a good software package?

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/04/29 19:13 The Pioneer model Harry mentioned is a good one to get. OWC has the Pioneer DVR-115DBK DVD Recordable Drive 20X DVD-R/+R, 10X DVD+R DL Writer for $39.00 and comes with NTI's Dragonburn app. Just click on the add for OWC on this page and look in the DVD section. A good price for a dual layer burner and if I needed a burner that would be my first choice.

Dragonburn works well as well as using the built-in OS X burning.

I have been playing around with some Open Source free burning apps and both of these are nice:

Burn - works well and encodes DVD's too (my new favorite):

LiquidCD - Haven't used it much but looks like it has some nice features too:

There is also Roxio's Toast which is the premier burning app for Macs and is kinda expensive but has lots of features for about anything you would want to burn.

There are some other brands that work well in Macs but are not any less expensive than the Pioneer models. Lite-on brand burners are Mac bootable and burn well with 3rd party apps. Lite-On burners can also work with the OS X apps such as Finder burning, iTunes & iDVD by applying the Patchburn patch to it.

Apple uses Pioneers Superdrives and are my personal choice because they work right out of the box. I've had 3 Macs with different Pioneer Superdrives and all worked well. No complaints at all.

You can also find some good deals on used Superdrives pulled from macs on eBay too. Another option is the LEMSwap Google Mac Swap group.

Re:Recommendations on DVD burner players for G4 - 2008/05/02 16:43 Hey have a look at this for extra extra cheap Toast 8 which as Krow says is the premier burning software, prices OEM from $10.00.
