68k Machines - 2006/05/31 07:56So does anyone play around with or use 68k Macs.
I have a Mac Plus 4meg memory, and a LC520.

Re:68k Machines - 2006/06/02 08:50Until very recently (Apr 06) I used a SE30 that I bought new in 89. It was set up to produce my Invoices etc. on Filemaker, and printed A4 at 600dpi so it was fine for my purposes. The screen had packed up years earlier but as I had a Radius Two Page Display plugged in I didn't notice or care!
My original Mac Plus (bought 1985) is tucked away for its eventual display in my museum(!) together with the original 20Mb hard disk and Pagemaker 1 software. Remember when, to change the tabs, you had to export to Word (1 also) and reimport with the new tab settings!!! Oh yes, and reflow the tet from scratch if you changed the line width. Know handles then! I think the page extent was limited then to about 10? Can't remember now.
PS Apple took one month to repair my iBook DVD this month. Not impressed!

Re:68k Machines - 2006/06/03 17:30Believe it or not i still use my trusty Mac IIvx(20MB), everything on it was upgraded, and sadly it's original 80MB drive died a few years back.
These days i use it for scanning documents and some light gaming.
I also still use: PB145(8MB), LC475(8MB) among my other macs (7 total)

Re:68k Machines - 2006/06/04 09:56Yes, I don't use the Mac Plus anymore, just to play around with. But I do use the LC520 for a few things.
Most of my web programmin is done on a 6400/200 Power PC, or on my Shuttle PC, 3gig speed, 1 gig memory makes it easy to use and compile what I need very fast.
I have 7 Macs: Mac Plus My original. LC520: I bought to transfer program to my Plus. from the internet 6400/200: Web an graphics programming. 5400/120 and 6320cd/120: someone gave to me. and (2) Imac revA's: I bought for the kids.
I have (3) Mac's and (3) PC's networked in the house, using a Netgear router and DSL modem. All can access the Internet, so there is no waitng for a computer.

Re:68k Machines - 2006/06/12 11:14A Quadra 610 and a Quadra 650 are well and working today. The 650 needed a hard drive change, after the original drive died. An HP 2 Gig has worked well since then. 7.6 system, 104MB RAM, it runs Illustrator 7, Photoshop 4, Pagemaker 6.5 and even the terrible and untursty Dimensions 3.0, which runs no better in my 6500 with 8.6 or my beige G3 with 9.2.2
