Newbie assistance - Is this a good deal? - 2008/03/03 10:29 I just joined the forums and have been poking around some.

I found someone selling a MacBook Pro, here are the specs they listed:

-17 inch screen
-2.16 ghz dual core intel
-2 gig ram
-100 gig hard drive running at 7,200 rpm
-ALL recovery discs(panther) and battery charger
-SUPER clean
Reformatted with panther and good to go so it will behave like new. If I get my asking price will throw in my computer bag and desk cooler (you put beneath the computer and it blows the hot air away keeping it cool) over a 130 dollar value!

this computer over 3000$ new a little over a year ago, priced to go fast so get it while it lasts.

The buyer states this was bought around Aug. 2006.

What I am looking for is some guidance as to what this laptop should be worth?

Re:Newbie assistance - Is this a good deal? - 2008/03/04 20:18 The Everymac estimate is somewhere between 1800 and 1950 US$.

Re:Newbie assistance - Is this a good deal? - 2008/03/04 21:56 Please note that the estimated used pricing on EveryMac.com is retail, not for direct person-to-person sales. The MacBook and MacBook Pro used pricing was quietly updated with the introduction of the new MacBook and MacBook Pro models, but the remainder of the pricing information was updated as noted on the bottom of every page.

Nevertheless, retail pricing is a useful starting point to conduct research regarding the "value" of a used product for person-to-person sales as well. Keep in mind, however, that ultimately all products are only worth what one is willing to pay, provided that a seller also is willing to accept a particular price.

I hope this is helpful.

Cheers,

Brock

Re:Newbie assistance - Is this a good deal? - 2008/03/04 23:22 $1800 is more than likely a fair price, but you might find yourself shopping new. Keep your options open.

Pros: Big screen, light weight (5.3#), maximum RAM, fast HDD, good video, can boot Windows if needed, can boot Leopard

Cons: 32-bit processor limits future application potential, video not DX10-compatible for Vista, may run excessively hot, possibly unwieldy due to large screen.

Your call.
