Discussion Q&A - New MacBook Air? - 2008/01/23 06:32 More than 18 months after discontinuing the compact PowerBook G4 12-Inch, Apple has introduced the ultralight and extremely thin MacBook Air. Are you thrilled that Apple managed to combine a full-size keyboard, a reasonably large display, and the new "multi-touch" trackpad in such a thin and light notebook? Are you disappointed by the lack of Firewire, upgradable memory, and replaceable battery? Do you think it is a great value for a subnotebook or do you think it costs too much? Why or why not?

Re:Discussion Q&A - New MacBook Air? - 2008/01/23 09:34 i think the mba is kickass but costs way more than i can afford. hope the battery isnt too hard to replace as long as it isnt soldered it shouldnt be too bad.

Re:Discussion Q&A - New MacBook Air? - 2008/01/23 10:04 People who see the MacBook Air as a primary computer are missing the point, w/o the optical drive it is definitely created to be a supplement to a poweruser desktop. It's the first small notebook I would think about buying b/c it has a usable keyboard, even though I would like it if it had the MacBook Pro keyboard more.

Re:Discussion Q&A - New MacBook Air? - 2008/01/23 10:22 I don't like that MBA the battery isn't replaceable and it would be much better if it at least had one memory slot for a later upgrade. I think it would be fine as a primary system but what it really needs is a dock. If it had a dock with firewire and usb ports, a PCI slot, a DVD drive, and a hard drive for backing up the internal hard drive over time machine, it would be perfect.

I had a Duo and a Dock and it would be great to have a modern version of what I used to love! - Mike

Re:Discussion Q&A - New MacBook Air? - 2008/01/23 19:18 I think the tradeoffs Apple made, reducing expansion and the ports to make it thin and light but still have a real keyboard were the right decision. I have never understood how people could type on some of the little tiny notebooks, but this one shouldn't be a problem. It costs too much, but doesn't everything when it first comes out??

I never buy a first gen Apple product but when the second version comes out I will seriously look into it.
