Networking/internet on a PB165 - 2007/12/22 08:03I've connected my powerbook 165 up via an Asante mini SCSI adaptor, to our PC/Mac network. In the hope of surfing the internet with it.
Thus far i've managed to log into the router using the 165 but i can't seem to visit websites..Just tells me the domain doesn't exist.
Anyone have experience surfing with these machines?

Re:Networking/internet on a PB165 - 2007/12/22 18:24Found an old PB to play with huh ? You are a glutton for punishment - surfing on a PB 165 !
What OS is it running ?
It's been so long since I've surfed on an old OS I'm not sure I can help with the problem. I seem to remember something about Appletalk being disabled though...

Re:Networking/internet on a PB165 - 2007/12/23 18:23Good deal James. What was the problem ?
There should be some old versions of Netscape around for download too. Let me know if you can't find one, I'm sure I have Netscape on my old Mac Addict CD's.

Re:Networking/internet on a PB165 - 2007/12/28 01:24I've always found OldApps.com a worthwhile place for out-of-print Mac tools.
There's also a version of the iCab Web browser maintained for legacy machines and OSes if you want to give it a try.
You'll probably want to forage around for Smith Micro's Stuffit Expander if you don't yet have this. I'm not sure if v5.5 can run under System 7, but that's the earliest version easily obtainable to my knowledge. It's also the minimum required to open most of the .sit archives you'll run into, not to mention all the files that will probably need decoding.
