Re:Newbee, thinking of buying a Mac Pro - 2007/12/12 19:26
You won't have the same kinds of problems at all. I am pretty hard on my Macs and run them like you run your PC and since I have been running OS X (few years) I rarely have any problems. Mac OS 9 was a different story....
I've had at least a dozen Macs running OS X and I don't think I have ever had to do a re-install of the OS before. Of course my PeeCee is a different story too..
I think the Mac OS handles multitasking better the MS OS too. And OS X does not load all kinds of hidden files everywhere in the system like Windows does. Usually installing or un-installing an application is as easy as drag and drop to the Applications folder(install) or the Trash(un-install).
Windows has a lot of things running in the background (good & bad)and after adding ant-spyware, anti-adware, anti-virus software it eats up some CPU power to keep all that stuff running and with the Mac you can avoid anything like that almost completely. That's just one advantage well worht switching. XP and Vista have come a long way from Win98/DOS but it's still not in the same league as Mac OS X in my opinion. And no one I know that has switched from MS to Apple has ever regretted it. It sounds like you are/have been fed up with Windows and there is a very good alternative in the Mac OS.
And the only reason I have a Windows computer is to play games on. I could do without it completely and use a Mac as my only computer. In fact I never owned a PeeCee until a couple of years ago and it reminds me far too often why I like Macs so much better.
