Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/19 01:17 Rumor site AppleInsider recently reported the possibility that Apple may be working on an "ultra-portable" notebook that uses flash memory to speed boot times. What do you think about this potential development? Would you be interested in an "ultra-portable" Apple notebook? Why or why not?

Re:Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/19 08:34 I don't know just how "ultra" we'd be talking about, but I'm not a fan of tiny laptops. The keys are just too small!!

Re:Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/19 15:05 l really really hope that this rumor pans out, because it is exactly what I want. Smaller than the MacBook and fast. Sounds perfecto.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/19 16:55 I love my 12" PB, but haven't seen the 12" MB yet, so I can't say how different in weight and sheer portability that is. If it's significantly different, then sure, an ultraportable would be great, so long as the flash memory is large enough.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/19 20:05 I can't see myself using anything smaller than a 14 or 15" "Book" Probably because I'm getting old and eyesight is not what it used to be. And my fingers are too huge to type on regular keyboards, so I really dislike tiny kb's.

Personally I would have no interest in one but everything seems to be getting smaller. I can't imagine watching anything on a video iPod either.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Ultra-Portable Notebook? - 2006/06/27 08:55 I have one of the new 2.0 GHz Macbooks, 13.3 inch screen. It is a really nice machine, a good compromise between hefty computing power and portability. The screen is big enough to get a good view (and at 53, I NEED bigger stuff to see) and the keys are well spaced enough that my fat fingers don't double-strike any worse than they do on full sized keyboards. the single-double finger trackpad functions (single finger for cursor, two fingers for scrolling) works great! I hardly ever use a regular mouse for it.

In short, looks great, functions perfectly, light and portable enough to take anywhere, and gets a good three and a half hours of battery time with heavy Airport use, longer if its turned off (up to well over four hours, depending on your HD use).

I'd recommend it to anyone. (and often do!)
