Upgrade prep for Leopard - 2007/10/26 02:39
Even as I like to give advice, I could use some now.
Pre-ordered Leopard via Amazon.com, and should get it early next week. I've a mid-2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro 15" with 1 GB RAM. I figure the upgrade will be a no-brainer, but with me, there's always a catch.
I've got about a year's worth of data in two OSes on this machine--OS X and Vista. I'm in the process of backing up the data as I write this, just in case. I don't want to back up the entire system, though. Too time-consuming.
Windows volume is NTFS, which most Mac tools won't touch.
In Windows, I know I can copy my user folder with some exceptions and get most of the data back in the right places afterward, leaving the apps to reconstruct their Registry links when they are reinstalled.
Is it possible to move user data in OS X and copy it back to its original location after a clean install? If so, how?
