iMac Comcast Home Networking issues - 2007/08/26 13:50 I have 2 iMacs on a home networking set up using Comcast Cable with a Netgear gateway. When I signed up with Comcast, only one computer was online, I had no problems. As soon as I added the second computer, and the technician set up a home network, I had problems. The second computer would not engage. It was defaulting to an IP address that started at 169. I don't know what the technician did, as I wasn't home at the time, but I was told he had to make 3 telephone calls to Comcast and the problem was resolved remotely. That was 5 months ago. Last week I bought a new iMac. I added it to the network, and removed the older iMac. That still left a 2 iMac home network. So far, the older iMac will not engage, even though it has been on this network for 5 months. The new iMac is working fine. The older iMac is defaulting to IP address 169, and so on. After 3 days and 4 hours on the telephone with 6 different representatives of Comcast, I was told by Apple it is not an Apple problem, and I was told by Comcast to re-install my system software, which I did.
So far, only the new iMac is connecting to the Web.
Please, please, help me if you can.
Thank you,
Grammyc

Re:iMac Comcast Home Networking issues - 2007/08/26 15:27 I take it all the iMacs are running OS X? Are you connecting via Airport or via ethernet? Your answers will affect what advice you get here.
