Re:discolored macbook? - 2006/07/06 20:23 yeah, if you did not see it already apple is replacing the discolored macbooks.

http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/06/30/macbook.discoloration/

do not think it can be cleaned off.

Re:discolored macbook? - 2006/07/07 08:09 They finally did - apparantly some early production runs used a more porous plastic, and they're replacing those that got screwed up.

They don't five any serial number runs or any other indication of how you could tell if you may potentially have an issue. Like my post said above, mine is still pristine, and I bought mine within a week and a half of their release.

I don't remember where Macintouch had it. They often move pages about, and they aren't easy to get back to, sometimes.

I do remember reading some speculation on some other sites that the only pictures posted online appeared to be the same one, from the same original poster, and that the issue may have been getting more hype than deserved. But Apple is replacing them, so no hype, althought the problem really didn't appear to be widespread.

Glad mine's clean, tho...

Re:discolored macbook? - 2006/07/07 17:46 I couldn't find the page on MacinTouch either when I searched for it. Probably just missed it, its a big site.

It is good that your MacBook didn't have the problem. I'm sure most didn't but glad that Apple finally did the right thing and replaced those that did. An SN range would be nice to narrow down the problem ones though.

Re:discolored macbook? - 2006/07/11 13:18 Hmmm, clicked on your link, but, while less than half of the names on the list actually are supposed to have included pictures, those pictures' links now do not work.

It's good to see that people are willing to step up and be counted - as long as they went to Apple and demanded replacement.

But I have still only seen one picture posted - unless those links start working again.
