powermac 9500/200 0s 9.1 win user not networking - 2007/04/09 06:01hi i was given the above mac by a design shop. its got 2 NICs but i cannot get it onto broadband. been going round in circles and round again, i cannot see a comprehensive hardware list anywhere, or a driver list which shows the NICs are operating properly etc. i'm a windows/linux user and would love to get going with some mac stuff, been given 2 printers with it too which i'd love to get setup as a printserver but cant get off the ground with the networking. is there a 'magic button' to restore to default settings? or maybe a test checklist? i have looked for hours on the web and apologise if theres some obvious beginners pages i've missed, but i've missed 'em badly! thanks!

Re:powermac 9500/200 0s 9.1 win user not networkin - 2007/04/09 16:11Your network settings are under the Apple menu>control panels>TCP/IP.
The control panel should open and you should select "connect via: Ethernet.
And the "configure" should be Using DHCP Server.
The Mac should automatically configure from the network.
You may need to restart but give it a minute and wait to see if it connects.
You will have to figure out which connection you are using in the first drop down menu if you have more than one ethernet connection in the Mac. Other than that it's easy. If it's not working then you need a driver for the card. You'll have to pull the card to see what it is unless Apple System Profiler lists it. (under Apple menu again)

Re:powermac 9500/200 0s 9.1 win user not networkin - 2007/07/04 13:30Hello, With this machine and its processor you will have to install a patch on the hard drive to allow OS 9.2.1 or OS 9.2.2 to boot. See the informantion at this site <http://www.os9forever.com/os9helper.html>. I have done it on several drives on my PM 8500. I have installed a Sonnet G4 450Mz daughter card and I am running Jaguar OS 10.2.8 through XPostFacto 2.2.5. This machine just keeps on working! There is other information that you can learn about your machine under the AppleMenu on the far left. Under About this Mac you can find the amount RAM, also in the AppleMenu is The Apple System Profiler and the Chooser which is an application and considered "The Grand Central Station" for administering gadgets plugged into the network ports both serial and ethernet. Have fun! Good luck, Ivan
