SCSI Zip Drive on Sys 7 Performa 6400/200 - 2007/04/08 04:06 I just bought a brand new Zip 100 drive (SCSI) to attach to my Performa 6400/200. I'm scratching my head... I cannot get the Iomega driver to load. I get the icon when the computer is booting up but it has a big red X over it... So I cannot use the Zip drive. I have TONS of high resolution scanned images on my Mac (three hard drives) that I was needing to transfer to another computer and this was my only option. I'm running System 7.5.5. I have various Iomega drivers from 4.something to the 6.8 (I think) that came with the drive. I definitely have the Iomega driver set to load in the Extensions Manager. I was considering reinstalling my OS with no extras but with the Iomega driver to see if that might take care of the conflict that I assume is happening. Does anyone have a suggestion? I *DO* have an old Mac Classic that I thought about dragging out and seeing if I coul use it for the file transfer -- I could attach the external hard drives to it but I also need to be using the PC Exchange extension -- will it work on the Classic if I install System 7?

Thanks!

Re:SCSI Zip Drive on Sys 7 Performa 6400/200 - 2007/04/08 07:05 What software did you install ?

Iomega's site has a driver for System 7 and earlier here.

I would trash the Iomega extension in your system now and install the one from the Iomega site.

Re:SCSI Zip Drive on Sys 7 Performa 6400/200 - 2007/04/08 19:45 At the Iomega web site the only information I can find is that they don't support System 7 anymore... I couldn't find anything to download -- their web site seems to go in circles... If you know an exact address that I was overlooking for the driver I might need please post that ad I couldn't find anything.

I'm still scratching my head. The CD that came with the Zip Drive was *supposedly* for System 7.0 and up...

Thanks!

Re:SCSI Zip Drive on Sys 7 Performa 6400/200 - 2007/04/08 20:05 That is confusing....

I would try on of the other (6.8) extensions if you have them. You don't need to install anything, just drop the old Zip extension onto the System folder and follow instructions.

You can find some older software here too:

Re:SCSI Zip Drive on Sys 7 Performa 6400/200 - 2007/04/27 23:07 You may find that OS 7.5.5 isn't savvy with a ZIP drive... I forget whether you need to go up to 7.6 or not. I once used a ZIP startup disk for "repairs" in a junior high computer lab of networked LCIIs and LCIIIs running System 7.6.1, if I remember correctly... You should be able to run the Performa on the last version of System 7, and (dread the thought) System 8. After that, running the ZIP on a Classic (with the same OS) is a matter of having enough RAM... and heaven sakes, the processor speed... which means probably not. Consider the fact that the ZIP didn't exist when the Classic was designed. I used to have a huge collection of 68k machines, and I took it for granted that if a peripheral was made a few years afterwards, certain things simply weren't going to go. This shouldn't be the case for your Performa.

System 7 isn't a problem with Zip drives. I have used a SCSI Zip drive with old SE's running System 6.0.8 before but the correct driver is needed.
I can't remember for sure, but I think it could also be booted from the Zip disk with an OS on it.
