Re:Powermac 7100/66 - 2007/04/26 18:38
Well, it's been about a month... did you get it going? I have a 7100/80 that I bought at a church auction for $50 with a "boat anchor" monitor more than a year ago. Runs fine on OS 9, of course... I bought it because I have a bunch of old apps and files on ZIP disks from the days when I had a collection of 68k machines in the golden days of System 7.6.5. Anyway, by now you know that there is a 3.6v lithium battery in your PowerMac, and depending on how old it is, that could be part of the problem. Leaving the machine running all night doesn't drain the battery because it's essentially for keeping the date/time info, and some other stuff intact when you shutdown. When your Mac is turned off, there's a little trickle of power coming from the battery to do that. When turned on, the battery is not powered, or better, power isn't coming from the battery for any functions. Hope you got the thing going again. I've never had a Mac really die on me (I once had three dozen of them, really!). There's always something that can be fixed. I once owned six MacPluses and the floppy drives were the only part that went bad, for the most part. I did have to replace batteries from time to time in all the 68k machine I used to have. Based on previous experience, I'm sure I can find a fix for my iPod saga (check the forum) since all my other Apples were brought back to life in one way or other.
