Re:max out my 6500? - 2007/03/02 22:43 I always liked the 64/6500 Macs even though they can be a pain to take apart. Here's what I have in the 6400 I have.

First I would put a Sonnet G3 card in it. They are getting cheap now on eBay (some for $20-30)

Put a video card and USB card in the PCI slots definately.
I would put a Radeon Mac Edition or 7000 card in it. Forget using a 9200 Radeon PCI card (I have one and it doesn't play well with OS 9)
The USB card will give you a much better mouse and printer, etc.... connections. You can add a powered USB Hub for more add-on toys.

The Gforce cards are ok but I've always had better luck with Radeon and they are plentiful on eBay.

Max the RAM with two 64MB sticks of RAM.

Get all of the logic board add-ons like the A/V input output stuff. The TV Tuner for sure and there is also a video mirroring monitor port you can add. (uses the video-out port on the board) You should be able to run four monitors with that set-up. (2 morrored with internal video in the middle and 2 landscaped with PCI video on each side)

Add a CD-RW or combo drive. Since the 64/6500's have both SCSI and IDE you can use a SCSI hard drive and use the IDE for a newer DVD/CD-RW drive. Maybe even a DVD burner but the Mac may not have enough "oomph" to burn DVD blanks without problems.
