Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Apple TV? - 2007/02/25 17:42 With the Apple TV scheduled to ship within days, have you decided whether or not you will buy one? Do you think Apple TV is more than worth the price to conveniently "stream" programming to your television from your computer? Do you think Apple TV is overpriced given its limited functionality, lack of ability to record programming, and lack of DVD support? Would you rather pay a bit more and just buy a Mac mini to connect to your HDTV despite its lack of HDMI? Why or why not?

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Apple TV? - 2007/02/25 19:28 I already bought a Mac mini and have it connected to my television, so I'm not interested in the Apple TV. HDMI would be a nice thing to add to the mini, maybe the next one will have it, but I think the extra money is worth it for a Mac and a DVD player. The Apple TV costs too much to not do more. - Mike

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Apple TV? - 2007/02/25 23:17 The price does not bother me, but I will not get one until it supports 1080i.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Apple TV? - 2007/02/26 18:38 i'd buy the tv in a heartbeat if they added a full ed-/sd-/hd-tv tuner and 802.11n, and offered separately a range of big, apple quality screens which could display the streaming content. you could even take the idea further: and offer a new top-end ipod which supports full hd content, and a matching dock with the tuner and wireless streaming capability.

otherwise, it's just a repackaging of the same "itunes and only
itunes" idea (which is why i don't have an ipod). an inferior
repackaging, at that. at least with the ipod, people can take it with
them. in fact, the highest-capacity ipods can hold more content than
the tv, in a smaller package. and i just don't think people will buy into a single-source concept when it comes to their audio-visual experiences. you're better off with cable from a cost/benefit perspective.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Opinion Re: Apple TV? - 2007/02/26 20:23 Well, the AppleTV is now delayed until mid March at least, so maybe they're adding some gee whiz must have doodads.
