Buy Now or Wait? - 2007/01/21 16:41 I am currently on the brink of buying a fully loaded MacBook. However I have been waiting, because my main concern is the new OS Leopard which should be released in the next couple of months, hopefully.

Should I wait for Leopard? What are the pros and cons of waiting or buying today?

Or should I just say screw it and buy my MacBook today and buy the Leopard upgrade once it is released? Is there any way to get a discount on Leopard if it is released right after I make my purchase?

I greatly appreciate any assitance.

Re:Buy Now or Wait? - 2007/01/26 01:35 If history is any guide, Apple could offer Leopard at greatly reduced cost to new Mac buyers who make their purchases within the three to six months before Leopard hits the market or on any Mac model shipping until Leopard becomes the default OS. But this is speculation based on two similar programs in past years that I know of; Apple offered Panther and later Tiger at $20 if a new Mac didn't get the latest OS at the time the machine shipped.

I wouldn't call it a sure thing. Computers, like cars, are yesterday's news as soon as you get 'em. You're free to buy what you want, when you want, once you accept this philosophy.

Re:Buy Now or Wait? - 2007/01/26 15:46 One more point, which has to do with potential new hardware: I read somewhere on line that Apple is going to have a special announcement in mid February. Given that nothing was said about Macs at the MacWold San Francisco conference, it may be that new hardware will be be announced at that February event. It may be software instead, but it can't hurt to wait to see what happens.
