Re:Powermac 7500 - 2007/01/17 13:22 Don't worry about the license. You can work on the assumption that the person who installed the OS had a legitimate license. If you want to upgrade to OS 9, then you'd have to buy the CD, of course.

The CD drive on the 7500 is not a CD burner. The 7500 is now about 11 or 12 years old, and you have to remember that almost no computers had CD burners that long ago.

About a USB card--they should work with OS 8, but you need to download the USB drivers, here and here.

Re:Powermac 7500 - 2007/01/17 17:00 Presume you are planning to hook up a CD Burner to the USB Card. If my memory serves me correctly it's best to use a 2 port card. You'll also need CD Burner software. Get hold of Toast 4. Read this URL. Toast 4 can later be upgraded to 5. Try this URL.

Re:Powermac 7500 - 2007/01/18 19:54 I doubt if the CD Player in the 7500 can be exchanged with a CD Burner. I'm looking at the CD Burner I ran externally on a 8600. It's as wide as a B&W G3. Even if they can be exchanged the CD Burner will need to be connected to the PCI Card. The 7500 doesn't have the firmware to run a CD Burner. Cacicedo gave you an URL from which the necessary Driver can be Downloaded
I suggest that you upgrade your OS from 8.5 to 9. I was using 8.6 on the 8600 and found that with OS9 running the external HD and CD Burner was less troublesome. iTunes and iPod could be run because there is firmware for OS9. OS9 can be upgraded to OS9.1 9.2 from this [URL]http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120030[URL]

Re:Powermac 7500 - 2007/01/18 20:35 Yes you can run a CD Burner as long as it is a SCSI, you can still fined “bootable” drives out there I still have a few for the old SCSI, but what I get out of your post you want to be able to run DVD’s, that is not possible with that old of a unit, and if it would work it would overload your processor and with that you would need to use a different video card as the built in video is not enough!

Now you also could run IDE drives with the right controller card (like the Sonnet tempo trio, it has a 133 ATA controller for up to 4 drives and two USB ports and two firewire ports) that would give you the ability to run larger drives without the added expense, as you will find out the SCSI drives are very expensive. I have 5 7600’s around my house as they are my old favorites, have the built in audio and video inputs make it a very nice machine, even if you upgrade it to a G3 card, I do not think it will do DVD’s, if you can not find a SCSI CD burner let me know, I still have a few new ones on the shelf, and they are Mac bootable!
